Clivia caulescens which occurs in mountain forests of Mpumalanga ( North - Eastern RSA ) can reach a height of 1,5 to 2 metres. The larger plants often fall over rocks and become serpentine in nature.
They prefer damper, shaded, frost - free conditions and often grow in leaf litter on rocks. They differ from other clivias in that they develop long stems with aerial roots. They can flower throughout the year but the main flowering period is in Spring.
They are easy to grow as a garden plant in frost - free areas and germinate easily from seed.

Clivia robusta from Kwazulu Natal is another plant with a tall growth form often reaching 2 metres in height and I will discuss this plant in a later article.
